If your journey starts from Tartu and you have time to stay for the night, offer your children the VIP package, so that you can take the maximum from your adventure.
Avinurme village and the local Wooden Handicrafts Centre is a cosy start. The beautiful woodwork at Avinurme Wooden Handicrafts Centre is marvellous. Here, you can drink coffee and get instructions for getting on the Avinurme train.
It is worth to visit Kauksi beach near Lake Peipus regardless of the weather. It is the longest sand beach in Estonia - 37 km of sand! The cafe at Kauksi Holiday Village offers ice-cream.
Iisaku Museum provides a thorough overview of the life near Lake Peipus: Who were Votes and which birds and animals you can see and hear there. Iisaku Peetri Pizza is a perfect spot for a meal for families with children.
There are a lot of accommodation possibilities (hotel, tenting area, camping) at Alutaguse Health and Sports Centre.
Get out of the bed and onto the adventure. Alutaguse Adventure Park is located at the Health and Sports Centre area. It includes 6 tracks, an especially secure track for children, 2 tracks that go over a lake, and a tube trail opened in the summer.
Kukruse Polar Manor is a different kind of interesting. Visitors can try writing with a goose feather, playing at the polar playground, and putting on a crinoline dress (every girl's dream?).
When going back to Tartu, visit Jõhvi and its Cranberry promenade (Jõhvikapromenaad) which is full of cafes.
Recommendation: Take another day to visit Narva.
Narva Citadel and its Northern Yard, Bastions, and the River promenade await.
