Jõelähtme Church is one of the oldest ones in Estonia. The wooden original church was established during the period of Danes’ conquest at the beginning of the 1220s. In written records the Church of Blessed Virgin Mary in Jõelähtme was first mentioned in 1241 and according to the mediaeval administrative system it belonged to Tallinn Dome Church.
The church gained its present-day appearance in three major stages, acquiring finally the traditional “triple jump” silhouette group.
