The top three as chosen by the newspaper were the Victoria falls on the Zambezi river in South Africa and the Niagara and Yellowstone falls in North America.
Ranked fourth, Jägala waterfall is described by De Telegraaf as the highest natural waterfall in Estonia. The fact that its flow normally freezes over in winter is mentioned, as is the fact that the resulting icicles can be as much as a metre long. The river that flows beneath the waterfall is highly prized for its fishing.
Rounding out the top five in De Telegraaf’s ranking were the Iguaçu falls in Brazil.
