The Solaris Centre has a colourful history. Built from slate between 1982 and 1985 to the designs of architect Raine Karp, the only part still standing of the original building is the tower on the corner of Rävala Avenue. Once a centre for political education and known by locals as 'Karla Cathedral', it has played host to a number of key events in Estonian history.
The newly reconstructed centre comprises the Nokia Concert Hall, the seven-screen Solaris cinema and the Artis arthouse cinema.
It is also home to the biggest Apollo book store in Estonia, and you will find a range of perfumeries, clothes stores and shoe shops, a jeweller's, a games shop, a florist's, eateries to suit different tastes and a supermarket.
