The “Triple Concerto” will jointly showcase all three winners of the “Classical Stars” competition, performing as soloists with ENSO. The first two winners of the competition were the twins, the cellist Marcel Johannes Kits (2013) and violinist Katariina Maria Kits (2014), and the third winner was the pianist Sten Heinoja (2016).
Brahms' Symphony No. 3 will be performed during the second half of the concert. Olari Elts: “This is Brahms' most autobiographical, most melancholic symphony, which is a perfect expression of his personal motto during that period of life: “Frei aber froh” (“free, but happy”).”
Elts has been performing actively on different stages around the world, with the international press calling him enchantingly skilful, modest in body language, but an expressive conductor (Birmingham Post, 30/01/2011) whose “conducting style exudes intelligence and deep musicality” (Helsingin Sanomat, 23/01/2012).
Pre-concert at 6 pm
The symphony concert and the preceding cham¬ber concert are tied together by the works of the Estonian music classic, Heino Eller, whose 130th birthday will be celebrated on 7 March 2017. Eller’s chamber music will be performed by Katariina Maria Kits, Marcel Johannes Kits and Sten Heinoja.
