Housed in Viimsi Manor near Tallinn, the former summer residence of General Johan Laidoner who was the Commander in Chief of the Estonian Armed Forces in the Estonian War of Independence, the Estonian War Museum is a great place to start if you would like to learn more about the history of this country. Step into general Laidoner's office, climb into Forest Brothers' winter bunker, take a look at various arms and historical uniforms of the Estonian army.

There is also a huge display of artillery guns and military vehicles located 300 m from the main building, Vehema tee 1a that is unique in the whole Baltics.

The main building is open all year around, We-Su, 11-18, heavy artillery hall is open from May through September, Fri-Sun, 11-18 or by booking. Rooms can be booked for events, photoshoots etc.

Getting there

Bus No. 1A comes here from the bus terminal of the Viru shopping centre (to the Viimsi vallamaja bus stop). From the bus stop, walk back to the main road, turn right, walk another 50 m and you will see a yellow manor on your left. Coming by your own means: coming from Tallinn (Pirita) - after the railway crossing, take the first exit at the roundabout, drive another 500 m and you have arrived. The museum and its car park are on your left. The car park has enough room for cars, as well as buses. The heavy equipment exhibition is 300 m from the museum at Vehema tee 1, Viimsi.
