At the ceremony held in Brussels on 8 April, European Commission awarded Great Guild Hall of Estonian History Museum with European Heritage Label.
European Heritage Label is awarded to those historical sites that played an important role in European history in order to enhance the value and importance of these landmarks.
The European Commission emphasised the importance of the medieval Great Guild Hall and the local merchants' contribution to the Hanseatic League as a great example of European integration. The jury also gave a special mention to the work and vision of the museum's team in reaching its audience.
The 600-year-old Great Guild Hall was the only Estonian candidate for the label.
Great Guild Hall currently hosts a permanent exhibition dedicated to Estonian history, called “Spirit of survival. 11,000 years of Estonian history”. Find out more on the museum's website.
