See photos (17) At Hellenurme watermill, just 35 km from Tartu (between Elva and Otepää), you can see how your ancestors used to live. The mill was built in 1880 by the Middendorff family. The machines, which still work today, mostly date back to 1922, when the great-grandfather of the current matron of the mill bought them. When the guests arrive, the flour miller will open the turbine and the water-powered mill will start working. You can see the entire process of grains becoming flour. The matron of the mill will tell stories of how people used to live and offer traditional rye bread and drinks. Bring your friends or family, classmates, or colleagues!

When coming from Tartu, take Jõhvi–Tartu–Valga highway (road No. E264). From there, turn left onto Elva and drive along Vapramäe–Elva–Kalme road (road No. 152). From Elva, take Elva–Palupera–Kähri road (road No. 159). Immediately after the Hellenurme bus stop, turn left to the watermill. When coming by Otepää, take Rõngu–Otepää–Kanepi road (road No. 71). From there, turn right onto the Elva–Palupera–Kähri road (road No. 159). After the Hellenurme manor house and before the Hellenurme bus stop, turn right to the watermill.
