The Island of Aegna is located in the north-eastern part of the Gulf of Tallinn in the immediate vicinity of Viimsi Peninsula. It is a landscape reserve with an area of 293 hectares.
The earliest reference made to Aegna dates back to 1297 when Erik Menved, the king of Denmark, prohibited felling timber there. However, an exceptional cult stone with a hollow on it and a stone labyrinth called the City of Jerusalem reveal a considerably older settlement than written records do. On the island you can see boulders under protection, protection constructions and an old cemetery. There are also three beaches with campsites and bonfire places and three nature trails on Aegna.
