The purpose of Kärevere Nature Reserve is to protect rare animal and plant species and their habitats, forest and bottom-land meadow communities and inland bodies of water.
The conserved habitat types are flooded meadows, rivers and springs, spruce forests, western taiga and marshy deciduous forests.
Protected species include the black stork, lesser spotted eagle, white-tailed eagle, various bat species, asp, spined loach, bullhead, weatherfish, lady’s slipper orchid, etc.
