Karula National Park is located in Valga and Võru Counties in the municipalities of Karula, Antsla and Mõniste. It was established to protect the characteristic nature of Estonia and to revive a sustainable lifestyle and the rural culture of South-Estonia.

The Karula Highlands form a 5-8 km wide ridge. The grooves left by melting blocks of ice are visible near Koobassaare and the northern shore of Lake Ähijärv. Eskers and kames are found to the South-West of Ähijärve in the forest. The highest point of the Karula Highlands is Rebasejärve Tornimägi at 137.8 m. The picturesque Kaika hills are also located in Karula National Park. There are 60 lakes in the Karula Highlands.

More information is available at the Karula National Park Visitor's Centre located by Lake Ähijärve.
