Kihnu Island Tour
1. Pärnu City Guide → 2. Pärnu Visitor Centre → 3. Kihnu Museum → 4. Kihnu St Nicholas Church → 5. Kihnu Cemetery → 6. Kihnu lighthouse
UNESCO proclamed Kihnu's cultural space and traditions as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003. On the island where seal hunting and fishing used to be the sole means of subsistence, women are in charge of preserving their cultural heritage while men go fishing. Kihnu is a place where it’s absolutely normal to see a 70-year-old woman in national clothing riding a motorbike.
There are two options for getting to the island: from the port of Munalaiu (approximately 35 km from Pärnu) from where a one-hour ferry ride takes you to Kihnu, or from the port of Pärnu from where you can take a 2.5-hour ferry ride to the island. Check the ferry schedules before taking up the trip.
