There are two nature conservation areas on the island of Kihnu: the Kihnu Special Conservation Area and the Sangelaiu Protected Area on the islets of the same name off the north-western coast of the island. There are many protected natural sites and objects in these areas - one of which is the Koksi oak tree. Growing on the lands of Koksi Farm, the tree is also known as the Lemsi Village oak. It measures 3.1 metres in circumference and grows to a height of 26 metres. It has been under protection since 1938.
