Lake Tamula, located next to the town of Võru, has a surface of 231.3 ha and a maximum depth of 7.5 m (average 4.2 m). The shoreline has total length of 6465 m (length 2080 and width 1560m).
The only sandy shore is found in the town of Võru. The water level of the lake with its low, mostly muddy shores has in the past been far higher, reaching as far as the Kirumpää Fortress. The Roosisaar peninsula that is connected to the town by a charming suspension bridge was once an island.
The lake is home to many fish, including bream, perch, roach, pike, zander, bleak, burbot, eel and many other species.
Waterfowl species include great crested grebe, Eurasian coot, common gull, tufted duck, garganey and many more.
