Constructed of field stones and brick, Värska Orthodox Church has Saint George as its patron saint. The most significant holiday for the church is therefore St. George's Day, which due to differences in the church calendar is celebrated on 6 May in Setomaa. It's an important holy day that turns into a kirmas, or village party, after noon.

The church has an original iconostasis or icon wall and numerous beautiful handcrafted sacred items. Many cultural figures important to Setomaa, such as Anne Vabarna (1877–1964) and Paul Haavaoks (1924–1983), are buried in the cemetery surrounding the church.

Beautiful!

Beautiful church with a long history. Some famous indigenous people are burried here and it breaths history when you walk around. Impressive cemetery too!
