The house of God dedicated to King Carl XI of Sweden is impressive and the largest historicist church made of limestone. Its designer Otto Pius Hippius, an architect from St. Petersburg with his origins in Estonia, wanted that the pulpit and the altar as the centres of the church service were visible from every seat in the church, and everyone there could clearly hear the service. He considered the artistic aspect of the church's appearance and very good lighting to be of great importance.

St. Charles Church is decorated with sightworthy altar paintings by J. Köler and S. Kügelgen.

The oldest part of the church are the church bells, and in 1884, the biggest mechanical tracture organ with 30 registers was built.

On the edge of the Old Town on the way to the Ocvupation museum from Freedom Square. One of many religious churches and cathedrals in Tallinn

A nice church outside of Old Town

The Kaarli Church is across the road from the National Library. It is technically located outside the Old Town, a short walk from the Museum or Occupation History. It is another majestic-looking...

Different small church

Kaarli church is not like the other churches in Tallinn and has got its own unique architecture. You might find it not open at certain times of the day, though the interior is pretty small.
