Õngu küla, Hiiumaa vald, Hiiu maakond
The one-way Tihu study trail leads to the largest lake in Hiiumaa, located in a hollow between dunes. There are information boards by the trail describing the paludification process. At the end of the trail, a 200 m boardwalk leads to an observation deck at Lake Tihu. While resting at the observation deck you can watch the interesting water and wetland birds, enjoy the silence or the voices of the surrounding nature. In summer you can admire water-lilies and in autumn you can pick berries and mushrooms growing by the trail.
There is a cosy forest hut by the trail where you can stay, if you wish to enjoy nature longer.
When coming from Õngu (road no. 84), turn to the village road opposite the Õngu bus stop. Go straight over Lelu-Leemeti road and continue to an intersection of four roads, where the main road turns left. A sign directs you further on to the Tihu forest hut. Leave your car at the roadside near the crossroad.
