Snowshoeing in Sirtsi mire in Alutaguse

Snowshoes are a perfect opportunity to hike in mires and forests, to enjoy the quiet of a snowy forest and the unique beauty of the winter bog. There are many wild animals in Estonia and it is exciting to search for their tracks when snowshoeing.

Sirtsi mire is in the middle of wilderness in Alutaguse, which is a large region of forests and mires in North-East Estonia, near the Russian border. Many animals, such as bears and wolves, who are afraid of people, live in Alutaguse. Also the cultural history of Sirtsi mire is interesting, in addition to the nature: ancient winter roads, underground shelter of forest brothers and the stories of Kalevipoeg, hero of the Estonian national epic.
