Tallinn Town Hall

Tallinn Town Hall

Raekoja plats 1, Kesklinna linnaosa, Tallinn

View on map

Tallinn Town Hall is the oldest city hall in North-Europe. In 2022, Tallinn Town Hall celebrated the 700th anniversary of its first mention in 1322. The story of the building dates back to the 13th century and it was completed, in its current form, in 1404.

The magnificent Gothic arches, the unique wood carvings, tapestry, and paintings reflect the wealth and ideals of the former Hanseatic town. The works of art in the Town Hall were also an example of fair judgement for the aldermen because until the 13th-19th century the Town Hall was a courthouse.

An ordinary town hall.

This is an ordinary town hall, located in the center of Tallinn old town. It's worth a peek for a minute or two, but other than that - it's exterior is enough.

Central feature of the main square

We visited the square on many occasions during our visit to Tallinn. The town hall is a focal point standing prominently in the square and really adds to the character of the place.

Can't miss it

Central point in Old Town Tallinn and kind of a "can't miss" if you're meandering through Old Town, which is kind of a must-do if you're visiting Estonia's capital city. Beautiful, cool old building...
