The exhibition “Colours of the Golden Age. Classical Estonian Painting from Enn Kunila’s Collection” will open at the Art Museum of Estonia Mikkel Museum in Tallinn (Weizenbergi 28) on 20 March. Almost 50 paintings from the older period of Estonian painting, including the works of Konrad Mägi, Nikolai Triik, Ants Laikmaa, Ado Vabbe, Endel Kõks and Richard Uutmaa, will be shown at the exhibition. All of the works date back to the period 1910-1945. The exhibition is accompanied by a book and several educational programmes. The exhibition’s curator is Eero Epner, the designer is Tõnis Saadoja and the graphic designer is Martin Pedanik.

The exhibition “Colours of the Golden Age. Classical Estonian Painting from Enn Kunila’s Collection” can be considered a follow-up to the exhibition held in Tallinn Art Hall in 2010. However, the focus of this exhibition is narrower, on the period from 1910-1945. The exhibited works can be divided in three: landscapes in the home country; views of nature in foreign countries; and paintings of people.

Enn Kunila is an art collector who started his collection several decades ago. Classical Estonian painting from the first half of the 20th century form the core of the collection, which is dominated by the works of Konrad Mägi. Over the years, Kunila has organised a number of exhibitions in different locations around Estonia, at Taidehalli in Helsinki and last year also in the building of the European Parliament in Brussels. Kunila has also published eleven art books of his collection and helped publish monographs of Estonian painters.

The exhibition comes with an extensive educational programme for upper secondary school students, young children and adults.
