A car tour of the Old Believers’ villages by Lake Peipsi

View on map

This tour, which takes participants to the shores of Lake Peipsi in Eastern Estonia, is focused on the Old Believers – religious refugees who opposed the official teachings of the Russian Orthodox Church and settled in Estonia in the seventeenth century.

The villages near Lake Peipsi are unique thanks to the arrangement of local roads and construction: the villages are located by a single main road, which runs along the lake and forms kilometres of settlements. Make sure to visit the Kolkja Museum of Old Believers and do not forget do dine at the local restaurants. Additionally, you can buy local fish and onions!
