Personal water craft (PWC) are watercraft that the rider sits or stands on, rather than inside of, as in a boat. Jet ski drivers are required to have a jet ski driver’s licence and first time users of PWCs are expected to take a beginners course before entering the water on their own. Courses, instructions and instructors for duo-rides are provided by most equipment rentals and clubs.

You have to be fit and adventurous. Jet skis are small and fast and hitting waves over one metre might push you to your limits.

Minimum age requirement varies from 16-18 years, depending on the rental company and equipment or parent needs to be present and give consent. In some locations there is a designated “safe zone” for beginners to try their skills alone under the supervision of licensed instructor.

For safety and environmental reasons, there are some places (e.g. public beaches) where jet skis are prohibited. Check with your service provider or from where you rent your jetski.
