There are 5,000 kitesurfing enthusiasts in Estonia.

Windsurfing does not require a sea or special season, it can also be enjoyed on lakes – Harku in Tallinn, Võrtsjärv and Peipsi lake in South Estonia being the most popular. During winter, ice-surfing tracks are opened in Estonia giving the surfing a whole new feel.

Longboard and bodysurfing are not widely practiced in Estonia, as the waves are quite small and perfect days are rare.

Necessary equipment, special gear and accessories can be rented from different service providers in coastline harbours, surf-clubs and lake-side holiday resorts.

Surfing is a sport that can be enjoyed by all, both young and old, but it does require some physical fitness and skill. Courses for beginners are organised on a regular basis and completing one is required for first-timers before they are allowed out.

Best time for surfing in Estonia is from late spring (April) to early autumn (September).
