Caravan tourism

Every summer, Estonian roads see an influx of Caravan and mobile homes. Travellers from all across Europe flock to Estonia for the beautiful nature and plethora of camping opportunities.

Caravan and mobile home hikers can drive very close to nature, setting up by the forest or by the sea. You can even find camping opportunities near Tallinn Old Town.

The best time for a caravan or a mobile home hike in Estonia is of course in the summer.  Most of the camping sites are open from May to October. The light summer nights make camping that more pleasant. Camping sites are especially common in Western and Northern Estonia and on the country’s biggest island, Saaremaa. There are comfortable ferries to take you to Estonia’s biggest islands.

Estonian territory is fully covered with map data for GPS devices. Road atlases are on sale in bookstores, supermarkets, and gas stations, and here is a proper traffic sign system for convenient navigation. From here you can freely travel to Latvia or take the ferry to Helsinki or Stockholm. If you plan to drive to Russia, remember that your caravan and car will need a separate permit, apart from your own personal visa.

A few things to keep in mind:

Car headlights need to be kept on all day at all times. When towing your caravan, you will need to keep its backlights on. The local dictates that drivers must carry their driving license and car registration documents at all times while on the road.
