MUUSEUMI, Varbuse küla, Kanepi vald, Põlva maakond

REQUEST INFORMATION View on map

The newest part of the museum is the Machinery Hall, opened in July 2019, with the exhibition The Rule of Machines – a fascinating interactive exhibition on car mechanics and traffic physics, safe driving, and building safe roads. The outdoor exhibition Road Time is a road going through time and space where you can see old and modern vehicles. Visitors can also explore Eastern Europe’s largest collection of road construction machines.
For children, we have a wide selection of two-wheeled and electric cars in the traffic city.
At the Varbuse Post Station, you can learn about the development of roads and modes of travel and there is a children’s museum on the first floor of the house.

Getting there

The museum is located 48 km from Tartu, 22 km from Võru, and 12 km from Põlva. When coming from Tartu, the easiest and fastest way is to take the Võru maantee from Tartu and drive until you get to the Reola intersection. There, turn left towards Põlva maantee. When you reach the county border in Liiva, indicated by the sign of Põlva County (Põlvamaa), turn right from the main road to the old Tartu–Võru road, i.e. the Postal Road (Postitee). On this twisty and narrow road, you will pass through the villages of Vooreküla, Karilatsi, and Ihamaru. The last complicated part is the Ihamaru intersection, where you need to go straight; in 5 km, you will reach the Road Museum.

Worth to visit if already made it to that part of Estonia

I was first sceptial about visiting Road Museum. But if already in that part of Estonia worth to check it out. Most likely all ages will find something interesting to see or learn. Good entertainment...
