Hortus Musicus is a phenomenon, a union of kindred spirits, who previously irritated the Soviet authorities with their ecstatic manner of playing and concert programmes filled with sacred subtexts. The ensemble’s anniversary concert presents the culture of Europe as well as the source of its musical roots – Arab and Byzantine cultures. This mutually supportive ensemble has enchanted audiences around the world for 45 years, and been a constant irritant for the calcified worldviews of prudish musicians.

The event is dedicated to the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and to the centenary of the Republic of Estonia
