Exhibition "Non Ducor Duco" by Varvara Tokareva

During the month of January you are very welcome to visit an exhibition in TYPA gallery by residency artist Varvara Tokareva. "NON DUCOR DUCO" is a personal project exploring calligraphy. The concept is to write one phrase every day using a large piece of paper with a giant brush. 30 days of such practice, in one gallery space. As the work is created members of the public can attend and watch the exhibition grow.
This artistic approach is connected with meditation or yoga practice, when constant repeating is necessary. Endless repetitions emphasise the message, enhancing the value of the text. Handwriting is also important: handicraft is an important part of the project, pointing out the power of repetitive action, like a magical ritual or an enchanted dance.
The project calls to focus attention on the key things in chaotic and aggressive flow of information in our times, refers to masters of concrete poetry (for example contemporary Polish artist Stanisław Dróżdż, American-based artist and designer Barbara Kruger) as well as masters of Russian avant-garde from beginning of XX century like El Lissitzky and Vasily Kamensky.
