The freedom monument in front of the church in Simuna is dedicated to the soldiers from the parish who fought and died in war. The monument bears the names of 132 men who fell in World War I, the War of Independence and at the hands of the Communists. The monument completed in 1927 was destroyed by the Soviets in 1946, but a new monument was produced and unveiled on the initiative of the Simuna Heritage Society in 1989.
