Karakat safari on Lake Peipus

Karakat safari on Lake Peipus

Kesk tänav 119, Varnja alevik, Peipsiääre vald, Tartu maakond

REQUEST INFORMATION View on map

Book a safari on the ice of Lake Peipus with a karakat. Karakats are custom vehicles, built by local Peipsi fishermen, on large aircraft tires that make it safe to navigate the lake in winter.
The karakat safari lasts 1 hour and also includes stops. During the stops, we will introduce various fishing tools and methods on how to catch fish from an ice hole. We will also talk about the heritage culture of Peipsi fishermen, the local life, and the specialty of karakats.
The safaris only take place if the ice conditions are suitable and the Police and Border Guard Board has given permission to go on the lake ice.

Once there, turn right. At the same junction, you will see a banner for 'Mesi tare kodumaja', which points to the right. Drive for 1.2 km until you reach us.
