Karlova Theatre is a cosy theatre house on Tähe Street in the historical Karlova District of Tartu. The house was built in 1931 as a prayer house, according to the legendary project of Arnold Matteus. By now, the interior of the house has got a new look: the main part of the theatre's building consists of a theatre hall with 150 seats and a smaller hall with a tiled stove, where a special self-service café is open during the events. The theatre house is home to Emajõgi Summer Theatre, which has been operating since 1996. From autumn to spring, the theatre performs under the name Karlova Theatre. There are also guest performances and concerts.
