Hinni canyon

Hinni canyon is a unique canyon valley in Estonia, located in a specially managed zone in the Haanja Nature Park.

Hinni canyon was carved into sandstone during the Devonian period (420-359 million years ago). It is a 1520 m deep, 300 m long, steep gulch with the rapidly flowing Enni creek cutting into its sandstone bottom.

Intertwined layers of 5–6 m high white and yellow sandstone outcrops are exposed along the steep sides of nearly 200 m of the gulch. The fallen trees, the small cave spring nearby, and the rapidly narrowing trail add to the ancient feel of the area surrounding Hinni canyon.

The object is not lighted, which is why it is recommended to visit the canyon during the daytime.
