Sinimäed (Blue Mountains)

Wars have been fought in the Sinimäed area for 900 years. Today, traces of three wars are still visible in the nature; there is also a monument on the slopes of Grenaderimägi (Grenadier Hill) for those who died in the battles of 1944. You can learn about the history of Sinimäe by visiting the Vaivara War History Museum nearby or hiking along the Vaivara path of history.

Good to know: the Sinimäed Hills are relatively unique in Estonia. Three linked hills located on a flat plateau are huge blocks of stone torn from the edge of limestone cliffs by continental glacier.
