Struve Geodetic Arc, Simuna endpoint

In 1827, under the guidance of Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, the baseline of Simuna-Võivere was measured.
The endpoint of the baseline in Simuna is marked by a monument built in 1849.
The measurement of the Simuna-Võivere baseline is part of the measurement of the meridian arc performed in 1816–1855, the aim of which was to find out the size and shape of the Earth.

On 17 July 2005, the Struve Geodetic Arc was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The endpoints of the Simuna-Võivere baseline in Simuna and Võivere and the building of the Tartu Observatory have been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Estonia.
