Since 1998, Hiiumaa Museum is located in the old residence of the directors of the former Kärdla Broadcloth Factory, popularly known as the Long House. The house was constructed in the 1830s and 40s; the 60 m long house is one of the longest wooden houses in Kärdla.
The permanent exhibition of the museum gives an insight into the life of factory-era Kärdla (1829–1941). Additionally, there are various temporary exhibitions.
A souvenir and book shop with a wide selection of local handicrafts is open.

Museum is educative and well spent time. I am wondering, if museum can be expanded and some more exhibitions could be shown to customers to prolong good time in the middle of history.
You'd hardly imagine that Kärdla had an industrial past. You are updated on the history of the family of the von Ungern-Sternbergs and what they promoted in Kärdla.
