Puppet Theater Museum

Discover the enchanting world of puppetry!

The Puppet Theater Museum invites both adults and children to explore the colorful company of theater puppets.

The journey of the museum's permanent exhibition began in 1952, when the Estonian State Puppet Theater (today's Estonian Youth Theater) was born. The exhibition tells the stories of characters and backstage secrets accumulated over 70 years, all taking place in the heart of Tallinn at the corner of Lai and Nunne Street. For children, each decade's story is presented playfully and engagingly through thematic games.

The second part of the permanent exhibition takes you directly to the heart of puppetry. Here, you can learn more about different types of puppets — table puppets, rod puppets, hand puppets and marionettes — try them out yourself. Visitors can experience the puppet theater's magic by playing with puppets and observing how characters come to life on stage. The museum also offers the opportunity to discover the technical and creative details of puppet theater that make each performance special.
