Rest spot in Rakvere oak grove

Rakvere oak grove is a unique area of greenery in a northern urban landscape – it is one of very few oak forests left in northern Estonia.
It is thought to have been a sacred place for the ancient inhabitants of the area. The oaks that grow here today, however, date back to the past couple of centuries, and some were only planted a couple of decades ago. Today, the oak grove is popular among the townsfolk as an area for sports and recreation, and an outdoor classroom for local pupils.
Good to know: the grove is home to a memorial known as Okaskroon and a German military cemetery. A hiking trail also passes through the oak grove.
