St. Peter’s Church in Kõpu

This small neo-classical church with its historicist tower was built between 1821 and 1825. The iconostasis of the church hall is embellished with pilasters and entablature in antique shapes.

The original brick flooring and candelabra have survived, as has Guido Knauf's organ from 1867. The altar painting, "Let the children come to me", by Friedrich Ludwig von Maydell, is unique in terms of its subject.

The epitaphs of the von Stryk family, the family of the patron of the church, have also been preserved. Kõpu is not far from Soomaa National Park, which is a fascinating destination for nature lovers and weekend hikers thanks to its rich and diverse flora.
