In 1827, under the supervision of Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, the baseline of Simuna-Võivere was measured. The end point of the baseline in Võivere is marked with a limestone foundation. The measurement of the Simuna-Võivere baseline is part of the measurement of the meridian arc performed in 1816–1855, the aim of which was to find out the size and shape of the Earth.

From 12 June 2020, an exhibition will be open on the three floors of Võivere Windmill, which will tell the story of the measurement of the Struve Geodetic Arc, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
