Wearing folk costumes in Tartu

2018 has been declared the European Year of Cultural Heritage. Part of our national cultural heritage is folk costumes, made by previous generations, which have become characteristic of our people.

We ask guests to wear the folk costumes from the morning to make the Independence Day ceremony, held at the statue of the War of Independence (Kalevipoeg) at 11 a.m., more festive. The midday folk costume picnic, however, is an opportunity to present the folk costumes! The picnic includes educational and fun activities for every local and guest of Tartu.
