One hundred years after Estonia's declaration of statehood, the country is throwing a very special birthday party – it lasts all year and everyone is invited!

Estonia 100, celebration of a lifetime

Estonia's Independence Day is on February 24th, however special events all year make 2018 an unforgettable time to visit. See EV100.ee for the continually updated programme. In honour of the centenary, get to know Estonia's uniquely beautiful language with the "Estonian Tryouts" game and test if you have some Estonian in you! Monthly winners are selected for a free trip, play at game.estonia.ee.

Events not to miss

The year's event highlights include "Estonian History. A Nation Born of Shock", a new theatre production set in the 1960's, premiering January 19th, and sporting events like Simple Session (3. - 4.02), a globally-renowned BMX and skateboarding competition, and the Winter Swimming World Championships (6. - 10.03).

City festival 

Tallinn Music Week has a full performance, cultural and discussion programme.

April is buzzing to the rhythms of Tallinn Music Week (2. - 8.04), an innovative city festival with more than just bands, and Jazzkaar (20. - 29.04), a world-class jazz festival.

In the summer, Europa Cantat XX (27.07 - 5.08), Europe's largest choral music festival, comes to Tallinn, while in late November, the 22nd annual Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival takes place.

Call of the wild

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, with its wolf mascot, returns for the 22nd edition in 2018.

All throughout 2018, look for events under "Estonia 100: A Party in Every Village", when communities across the country take turns hosting birthday celebrations.
