Best spots around Estonia to enjoy sunrise and sunset

Springtime is the best season for sunsets in Estonia. The days grow longer, and the sky turns into all shades of pink and orange. The sunset seems to go on for hours. During the white nights of summer, though, sunrise and sunset are only a few hours apart, giving you ample time to enjoy the view. Here are some of the best spots around the country to take in this natural light show.

North Estonia

Watching the sunset over the water is magical, making the extensive coastline of North Estonia a logical place to go. But the seaside isn't your only option. The observation towers over wetlands and forests are also prime spots for taking in the sunrise or sunset.

South Estonia, vol. 1

Blue lakes, green forests, and sleepy villages are just some of southern Estonia's many charms. Start your morning watching the sunrise from atop a wooden observation tower or watch the sunset reflect on the surface of a still lake.

South Estonia, vol. 2

Tartu is the perfect place to use as a base for exploring these next four spots. Their relative proximity to the city means you don't have to choose between the urban delights of the city and the great outdoors – you can do both in one day!

West Estonia

Pärnu is said to have the "best sun" in Estonia, so of course, it's a top sunrise/sunset spot as well. Legend has it that if two lovers kiss at the end of Pärnu's jetty, they will stay together forever, making this the most romantic sunset spot on our list. For a really magical experience, though, try heading out in the morning to catch the sunrise over a misty marshland forest — it's breathtaking.

Tallinn

Spend the day exploring Tallinn's Old Town, and then climb up to one of the viewing platforms to see the sun go down and the city lights come on. Or you can get a front-row seat to a spectacular sunset over the water by climbing up to the top of City Hall (Linnahall) or taking an evening stroll on the Pirita promenade. Warm summer evenings attract a lively crowd to Noblessner, where you can enjoy dinner or drinks while taking in the sunset.
