Cross country skiing is one of the best ways to appreciate the serenity of Estonian forests while bringing peace to the mind and body. The rolling hills in the south and northeast offer tracks for everyone, from beginners to skiing enthusiasts. You can rent equipment and ski into the night under lit tracks, where you may even meet a wild rabbit, fox or deer. Several large ski races take place throughout the winter, so come spectate or join in!
Valga maakond, Pühajärve küla
The 10 km Pühajärve-Kääriku ski track is suitable for both skiers and hikers who want to enjoy the magic of winter. It starts either by the Pühajärve Spa & Holiday Resort or at Kääriku Sportcentre. The 2.5 km Sihva-Kääriku section is lit until 9 pm. The track has a simple relief and is well suited for amateur skiers. Tartu maakond, Lähte alevik
Lähte ski trails are located in the small town of Lähte, 15 km from Tartu. Ski trails are accessible 24 hours a day for free. Lähte has four ski trails in varying lengths: 5 km, 2.5 km, 2 km and 1 km. During the winter, the ski trails are lit until 9 pm. You can also use a 1.25 km trail with artificial snow. Next to the trails, you find a watch tower. Showers are available in Lähte sports hall nearby.Read more
Harju maakond, Padise küla
The tracks and the sledge slope is open only when there is natural snow! Be sure to contact us about the snow situation before coming here! We have tracks of different lengths: 1, 2, 3, 4, and the longest is 6.8 km long. The ski track which is 2.2 km long has lighting which you can turn on by yourself. The main switch is located on the wall (next to the door) of the substation next to the Padise boiler house. The boiler house's staff will turn the lights off. The ski tracks are free of charge! There is a fun sledge slope and sledges at the Kallaste Tourism Farm. It costs 3€ (unless you are staying at the farm) to visit the territory. The price includes using a shower, toilet, and a kitchen, which are located next to the track.
Valga maakond, Tõrva
Tõrva's health tracks forms part of the Estonian network of health tracks. It measures 1.5 km and is lit along its full length. The skiing track can be accessed from the grounds of Tõrva Secondary School. It passes primarily through forests, but also skirts beautiful Lake Vanamõisa. The track is well-tended and lit at night, which is why it is so popular. There is an information board in front of the school with a map of the track and information about it, as well as details of upcoming events. From the stadium there is a 1 km long marked path to the Härma skiing track, forming a total circuit of 8.1 km. The track in front of the school building is the perfect place for little ones to try skiing for the first time.

Lääne-Viru maakond, Rakvere
When winter comes, ski trails await you in the health trails in the Palermo forests, in Rakvere. You can ski on the 3 km cross-country track, of which 2.2 km is lighted. If you do not have your own skis, you can rent them from the sports shop RixRatas in the centre of Rakvere, Parkali Street 7. In the summer, health trails in Palermo are open for everyone for Nordic walking, running or biking. You will find more information about the Palermo health trail here. Valga maakond, Otepää linn
The 63 km track of the Tartu Ski Marathon starts from the stadium of Tehvandi Sport Centre in Otepää and runs to Elva through Väike Munamägi, Matu, Harimägi, Kuutsemägi and Palu. The 31 km track starts by the Arula crossroads. The official finish of the track is in the Tartu County Recreational Sport Centre in Elva. The track section between Tehvandi and Kääriku can be used from the second week of February until the end of the winter season. Interesting facts: * the wooden sculptures of the biggest open air theme park in Estonia, Maajumalate Park, are near the track.Read more
