On October 30, late in the evening in Estonian time, the International Congress of Business Tourism ended in Houston, Texas, USA, where the Estonian Convention Bureau’s “Go Wild, Choose Estonia” campaign was awarded the Best Marketing Award of Business Tourism.
The “Go Wild, Choose Estonia” campaign was developed by the Estonian Convention Bureau's small business tourism promotion team who had a limited budget, but it has been successfully implemented to promote a little-known international destination, according to a press release from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) that promotes business tourism.
1,000 delegates from 75 countries attended the 58th ICCA Congress. Estonia's competitors in the Best Marketing Award category, which this year had more submissions than ever, were the Italian and Sydney business tourism promoters (Convention Bureau Italy and Sydney Convention Center). The finalists were selected by the ICCA judging panel, with the winner determined by an on-site voting, one part of which was decided by the judging panel and the other part by the delegates in the room.
“As professional marketers, we have been highly acclaimed, and other destinations want to learn from our experience. Due to this victory, Estonia has moved into an entirely new league among international convention destinations,” said Kadri Karu, Head of the Estonian Convention Bureau, one of the creators of the award-winning concept, who presented Estonia as a business tourism destination at the International Congress.
