Tallinn Christmas Market

Tallinn Christmas Market with a touch of a fairy tale will be held at the Town Hall Square of Tallinn. Everything is possible at the Christmas Market! The star of the market is the Christmas tree, which is the most important Christmas tree in Estonia and has been set up in Town Hall Square since 1441, making it the first Christmas tree ever to be put on display in Europe. The Christmas land is decorated with trees, Christmas decorations, and Christmas lights. Local merchants will offer Estonian Christmas cuisine, from black pudding and sour cabbage to gingerbread and hot Christmas drinks, as well as various handicrafts. Our younger guests can enjoy merry-go-rounds and there is a diverse Christmas programme. The real gem of the Christmas Market is Santa Claus, who will greet children in his own home and arrive by reindeer sleigh!

Christmas in Tartu 2017

We might have white Christmas, we might not be that lucky. There is no knowing even when it comes to old university towns in this matter of great importance.  But one thing is certain – every year Tartu will become a Christmas City, snow or no snow. This joyous transformation will always take place on the first Sunday of Advent. A candle is lit on Town Hall Square and this officially kindles the season in the city and all its Christmas lights. People in Tartu meet up at the very heart of the city on all four Sundays before Christmas Day and at noon on 24 December. They also enjoy the festive season activities and treats offered by the city`s unique set of museums and great concerts halls. To name a few of the surprises available – one might even meet a folk dancer or two, in fact couple of hundreds of them, in the middle of winter right at Town Hall Square in Tartu.

FIS Nordic Combined World Cup in Otepää

The FIS Nordic Combined World Cup will be held in Otepää for the first time! The year 2018 will mark the 30th anniversary of the bronze race of Allar Levandi at the Olympics held in Calgary. To keep the tradition of Estonian nordic combined skiing alive and motivate new athletes, the Nordic Combined World Cup will be held in Estonia for the first time. The major event in Otepää will be the first sporting event of the jubilee year of the republic. On Saturday, an individual competition will be held on Tehvandi Stadium and on Sunday, a team sprint. For the first time in the world of sports history, female nordic combined skiers will also participate in the continental championship by racing in the individual races on both days.

Mulgi Skating Marathon 2018

Otepää Sauna Marathon

This sauna marathon sees registered teams attempting to experience as many of the saunas in and around Otepää as possible over a period of 6 hours. The start is at midday, with teams being given orienteering maps. All of the members of a team must be in each sauna for at least 3 minutes, with bonus points for dips in ice holes and cold water pools and use of other attractions provided by the sauna owners. The team that visits all of the saunas in the shortest time wins, with awards presented to them with the sauna owners at Kääriku Sport Centre. Bring your friends and join in on the fun!

Tartu Marathon 2018

Tartu Marathon is the largest ski marathon in Eastern Europe, which brings together nearly 10,000 participants each year. The Tartu Marathon tracks are located in the beautiful Southern Estonia and it is possible to choose between 63 and 31 km distances. Foreign visitors have said that this trail is one of the most beautiful and interesting ones in the world. Tartu Marathon is part of the international Worldloppet cross-country skiing series.

Noarootsi Sauna Rally

Just like last year, Noarootsi Sauna Rally aims to bring visitors to Noarootsi from near and afar to introduce them to the Noarootsi region and the local companies. We will heat up a lot of saunas – among others, a smoke sauna and various mobile saunas. Participants can go for a swim in ice-cold water and test their knowledge on the history of Noarootsi. Caterers offer the opportunity to try the local dishes to participants as well as spectators.

Winter Swimming Championships

This fun sporting event is meant for people of all ages. The event will be held in the town centre – in the Admiralty Basin of the Port of Tallinn, where more than 100 winter swimmers from 50 countries will compete at 25, 50, 100, and 200 metre distances both individually and in teams. Winter Swimming Championships are held every two years. It is also possible to swim without being timed and simply enjoy a quick swim in the ice cold water.

Tallinn Music Week

Tallinn Music Week (TMW) is one of the biggest indoor music festivals in the Baltic and Nordic region that presents a line-up of around 200 artists from Estonia and abroad, representing various musical genres. The number of Festival participants from Estonia and elsewhere reaches 25,000. In addition to the main programme of the Festival that takes place in the most important clubs and concert venues of Tallinn, you can also explore the lesser known parts of town during the Tallinn Music Week. Across Tallinn, City Stage concerts take place; you can also participate in the discussion series TMW Talks, the restaurant festival TMW Tastes, the contemporary art programme TMW Arts and the artisan beer festival Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend.
