Peetri (St. Peter's) Church in Tarvastu

Tarvastu church is dedicated to St. Peter the Apostle. Older parts of the church probably date from the 14th century. After suffering damage in wars and undergoing renovations, the church received its current appearance in 1771 when the nave was reconstructed into its present size and the western tower was added. In 1892, a lightning strike started a fire in the church; the building was restored by December 1893 under the hand of pastor Michael Jürmann.
