Aare-Paul Lattik is one of Estonia’s leading concert organists, who values his instrument’s sound not just as it comes out of the organ pipes, but also as it resonates in the room, and continues to live and change under the church’s vaulted ceilings. Contrary to typical approach to the organ music, Lattik is particularly fond of technical, fast and challenging pieces. Bach is unmistakeably among his favourite composers, but his soul also resonates with the music of French composers.

While the grand forum of organ music is the festival held in August, the series “The King in Niguliste” offer an opportunity to listen to the organ music during the concert season. After all, an organ concert is a way of being alone with oneself and the church – with the performer up on the gallery, and sounds flowing underneath the vaults of the church. Historically the players of this instrument have always been connected to the church, with concert organists being a fairly new trend. This series will introduce the most unique concert organists from Estonia and abroad.
