Exuding an air of Nordic crispness, this concert programme starts and ends with famous works by the Estonian and Finnish classics: Dawn (Koit) by Heino Eller, which has become one of the signature pieces of Estonian classical music, and Symphony No. 3 by Jean Sibelius. The soloists in Brahms’ double concerto are Anna-Liis Bezrodny, the best known Estonian violinist from a family of musicians, and Jan-Erik Gustafsson, one of the most outstanding Finnish cellists. The two musicians can often be seen performing together on concert stages around the world.
Bezrodny has performed solo recitals and with orchestras in numerous prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Cologne Philharmonic Hall, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall and the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. She also teaches at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Gustafsson’s international career took off when he was awarded the Young Musician of the Year title by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) at the Eurovision Classical Music Competition in Copenhagen (1996). He has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras in the United States, Europe and the Far East.
The concert will be conducted by Neeme Järvi, the principal conductor and artistic director of ENSO.
