REQUEST INFORMATION View on map

The Obinitsa Museum offers an opportunity to learn about the unique history and culture of Setomaa through exploring the family life, traditions and customs of Seto families. The items in the cosy museum come from the surrounding villages; we place a particularly high value on the fine handicraft of Seto women.

Good to know: In 2015, Obinitsa village bears the title of the Finno-Ugric Culture Capital. This year, the village therefore offers opportunities to learn about the cultures of different Finno-Ugric nations.

You can get tourist information on Setomaa and the Põlva and Võru Counties and use the internet in our Tourist Information Point. You can also buy Seto handicrafts, books, CDs and DVDs in Seto language or about the Setos here.

Getting there

Please park large buses on the parking lot in front of the Seto art gallery in the village centre: it is only 125 metres to the museum from there. - If you are coming from Tartu, take a left turn on the roundabout near Võru towards Koidula and then follow the signs. Turn to the right at the T-intersection in Obinitsa and to the left after 25 metres; then, drive straight for 100 metres. If you are coming from Vastseliina, follow the sings pointing to Meremäe. In Obinitsa, turn to the right after the store. If you are coming from Põlva or Värska, you will reach Obinitsa 4.6 km after the Piusa sand caves. If you are coming from Saatse-Koidula, the shortest way to the museum is to pass through Võmmorski, and after you pass the lake in Obinitsa, turn left into the village and drive for 100 metres.

Presentation of Seto clothing

We had lots of fun when one of our group members had the seto national costume put on. To get the best experience find a local guide who explains all the details.

free time with family

The best place to catch the feeling of Estonian magic. As in a real house you can feel as free as you want - sit down, drink some tea, watch the movie upstairs, it is a must have!
