Alatskivi (0 km) – Koosa (9.5 km) – Kivistiku – Kargaja – Varnja (27.5 km) – Kolkja (35 km) – Nina (41.6 km) – Alatskivi (45.7 km) – Kallaste (53.3 km) – Kokora (61.2 km) – Peatskivi – Alatskivi (67.1 km)
This hiking trail is a small addition to routes 3 and 6 and offers a good lap for a more serious day trip. From the beautiful castle of Alatskivi you will drive along the road to Koosa and Kivistiku, and from there you will have to pass a rather difficult section through Kargaja to Varnja.
The famous villages of the Russian Old Believers in Estonia, Varnja, Kasepää and Kolkja, are the main attraction of this route. You will see interesting techniques of onion growing and the day-to-day lives of fishermen and villagers. True adventurers should definitely visit the famous onion and fish restaurant there. Kallaste is the largest centre in the area. Drive back to Alatskivi via Kokora.
The roads are relatively suitable for cyclists, but the section around Kargaja is wet. At the edge of Lake Peipus, you will be riding along a narrow village street where even the cars drive extremely slowly. In Alatskivi you can use pathways for a short time.
We suggest starting the trip from Alatskivi, Koosa or Kallaste.
