TOP food festivals this summer/autumn

The summer and autumn are busy seasons for Estonian cuisine. Regional food events showcase local ingredients like herring, flounder, apples, pickles and even dandelions. You can sample cuisine from the best restaurants in Tallinn, Pärnu and Haapsalu while strolling outside in the sunshine. From traditional recipes to modern Baltic fair, come taste the flavours of Estonia this year. Our list of events is by no means final, as new festivals pop up all the time.

Tuulekala (Wind Fish) Festival

Tuulekala Festival will bring together all those who are constantly facing the sea and those who appreciate good food, dancing, and the stories of fishermen. Guests of the festival can see trolley rigs set up for garfish, select the best dish made from fish, and see who was the most successul fisher. The evening will end with dancing as the band "Untsakad" will perform. The garfish, whom the people of Hiiumaa call the fish of wind, is an expected guest as each year, with the southwest winds of the spring, it comes here for a short month from the Atlantic to spawn. Its long jaws and green bones make it one of the most unique fish to catch from the Baltic Sea. The arrival of the garfish in Hiiumaa is an event on its own and locals start talking about it at the beginning of May, or earlier.

Food Fair ‘Narva TASTES’

On the last Saturday in May, the Narva River Promenade will host the most delicious fair of the year. Here, the best restaurants and cafes in Narva and Narva-Jõesuu will come together and offers their best tastes. Every year, guests of the fair have the opportunity to try new things. On the day of the fair, the summer season of the River Promenade will also be opened formally. Guests will not have time to get bored. Concert on the Dahlberg stage, raffle, activities for children – all of this will take place on the River Promenade. Spend a day with your family or friends and enjoy the tastes of Narva!

Italian wine party

The wine party began with the idea of introducing Haapsalu’s twin town Greve, located in the Chianti region of Italy. Wine is offered by the majority of Estonian importers as well as by their Italian partners. The wine party begins on Friday in Haapsalu’s cafés with Italian wine tastings. On Saturday, a wine contest will be held in Haapsalu’s Old Town, which will reveal the favorite Italian red wine, white wine, and Prosecco of Haapsalu.

'Kihnu Keretäüs' – cafe days

Come to Kihnu to enjoy good food and the local culture! On the first weekend of June, Kihnu Island will be the island of cafes, where cafes can be found in many farmsteads and other interesting places. Locals will open temporary, one- or two-day cafes in their home yards or in other exciting places. The goal is to value local food, offer good meals and local produce, as well as a unique cultural programme. Saturday evening will end with an island celebration, organised by Kihnu Cultural Space.

Good Food Festival – Grillfest

Throughout Estonia

Grillfest takes place on the beautiful meadow by Vallikääru in Pärnu in June, every year. For two days, 300 caterers from Estonia and abroad serve their best fare. We have outdoor restaurants, cafés and even a pet restaurant. You can enjoy the Good Food Fair, the national fishing championships and food preparation competitions; a large and exciting play area is available for children. The festival has performances by excellent artists on various stages; music styles offer something to every taste. Both days of the festival end with magnificent fireworks. After Grill Parties take place at festival clubs. Everyone is welcome to the Grillfest; the entrance is free of charge! Timetable is available on our website.

Kuressaare Gin Festival

Street Food Festival – Haapsalu's Promenade of Flavours (Haapsalu Maitsete Promenaad)

Café Day in Setomaa

On Café Day, we invite visitors to farmyards to taste local dishes from locally sourced ingredients.  Traditional Seto foods, such as sõir cheese, suulliim cold soup, and kikkaseenepiirak mushroom pies, will all be served. These and other interesting local dishes will be available at Setomaa family cafés all day. Each café also sells their products: you can eat them on the spot or take them to go. On Sunday cafés offer what has been left-over from Saturday.

The third Peipsi Food Street 175 km will take place from 22nd to 23rd of August from Vasknarva to Saabolda. Pop-up restaurants will be opened on a road that is 175 km long in total. The restaurants offer dishes and drinks made only from the fresh local raw ingredients. The festival features local restaurants as well as  pop-up restaurants from all over Estonia. Peipsi food comes from the local lakes, forests, fields, bogs, and marshes. It is diverse and full of different cultures, traditional but also new. The main value is the people who bring the food to the table.

Kallaste Fish & Onion Fair has become a traditional late summer event in Kallaste. Held on the last weekend in August every year, it attracts people not only from the local area but also from other parts of Estonia, and even abroad. In addition the fair itself there is a diverse cultural programme including handicraft workshops, traditional cooking, boat rides on Lake Peipus, children's shows and more. The festivities culminate in an evening dance and fireworks.
